Thomas F. Chanowski, 83 of Edison, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at JFK Hospital, Edison. Born in Bloomfield on November 5, 1938 to the late John & Helena Chanowski (nee: Slawinski), he resided there for 55 years. He then moved to Florida for 15 years. Thomas graduated from Bloomfield HS and St. Peter’s University in Jersey City. He was a veteran in the US Army serving proudly from 1962-1964. Following his honorable discharge, Thomas began his career in banking. He worked for the Bank of Commerce at first then became a Senior Vice President of the Mortgage Department at First Jersey National Bank and managed the Mortgage department at American Savings and Loan in Bloomfield until his retirement. Tom loved playing sports, especially softball where he excelled as a pitcher. He also enjoyed basketball & golf. He was a member of the St. Valentine Athletic Club and was inducted into the Bloomfield Athletic Hall of Fame. Thomas is survived by his son, Anthony & grandson Trevor, sister, Karen Graham, nieces, Cynthia Graham & Donna Ayers & nephew John Chanowski. He is predeceased by his brother, Jack & niece Jennifer Graham. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Valentine Church, 120 N. Spring Street, Bloomfield. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Bloomfield.
