Vera Mykolenko

It is with infinite sadness that we inform you that our Mama, dear friend to many and former teacher at the Lesya Ukrayeenka School- Vera Mykolenko passed away on September 20th. Vera was born Vera Prysciazhniuk on June 26th, 1926 in the village of Kornytsa in Ukraine to Fedeer and Maria Prysciazhniuk. She married Petro Mykolenko (Bajda) who was a Major and prominent member of UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army). She participated with him in the activities of UPA in the immigrant community and supported him in his involvement. They moved to the United States where she lived for the rest of her life. She raised two children, Marusia and Orest and was active in the Ukrainian Community. She loved literature, poetry and opera and was very interested in the current situation in Ukraine. She participated in the Detroit Committee in Defense of Ukrainian Political Prisoners. She was a long time resident of Dibrova Ukrainian Park near Brighton and was famous for her long daily walks that her daughter could barely keep up with. She was a beloved adopted grandmother to the Laska family. She is survived by her children, daughter Marusia, son Orest, grandson Luke and daughter-in-law Nancy and her adopted Laska family as well as the entire extended family of cousins both in the United States and Ukraine. We will always remember her sense of humor, her keen intelligence and her warm heart. May she rest peacefully in our Lords Kingdom! MEMORY ETERNAL! Funeral Services (Pokhoron) will take place on Thursday, September 24th. The visitation and viewing will start at 10:00 AM and the funeral will be at 11:00 AM on the south lawn of the parish campus of St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church on 21931 Evergreen Road in Southfield, Michigan between eight and nine Mile Roads. In lieu of flowers Veras family requests donations in her memory be made to UCARE (Ukrainian Childrens Aid & Relief Effort), St Marys Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Litopys UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army) and the American Cancer Society. On Monday, September 28that 11:00 in the morning there will be a gravesite service at St. Andrew Cemetery behind St. Andrew Memorial Church at 280 Main Street in South Bound Brook, New Jersey, Із безмежним смутком повідомляємо Baс, що наша Mama, дорога подруга багатьом і бувша вчителька в школі Лесі Українки- ВІРА МИКОЛЕНКО відійшла у вічність 20-того вересня. Віра Миколенко родилася 26-того червня 1926-того року в сімю Марії і Федора Присяжнюка. Вона вийшла заміж за Петра Миколенка (Байди) який був майором і визначним членом УПА (Українська Повстаньська Армія). Вона вчастувала з ним у ділянках УПА на еміграції і підтримувала його у цьому зайнятті. Вони виїхали до Америки де Віра жила решту життя. В Америці Вона виховала двох дітей- Марусю і Ореста і була активна в Українській громаді. Вона любила літературу, поезію і оперу і була зацікавлена сучасними подіями на Україні. Вону вчастувала в Дітройтському Комітеті Охорони Українських Політвязнів. Вона вже довгі роки проводила ціле літо на Українській Оселі Діброва коло Брайтону де всі знали про її довгі проходи по Діброві під час яких донька за нею ледво вспівала. Вона була улюбленою адоптованою Бабою родини Ласків. Вона лишила по собі доньку Марусю, сина Ореста, внука Луку, невістку Ненсі і адоптовану родину Ласків як також кузинів в Америці і на Україні. Ми пам'ятатимемо її гострий інтелект, їі гумор і її тепле серце. ЦАРСТВО НЕБЕСНЕ І ВІЧНА ЇЙ ПАМ'ЯТЬ! Похорон відбудеться в четвер, 24-того вересня на південній галявині біля Yкраїнської Православної Церкви Святої Покрови на 21931 Evergreen Road, Southfield, Michigan. Візитація почнеться у 10-тій ранку а похорон буде в 11-тій ранку. Замість квітів родина просить пожертвувати в її пам'ять на UCARE (доброчинна організація допомоги сиротам в Україні), на парафію Святої Покрови,на Літопис УПА або на Американську Асоціяцію Проти Рака. У понеділок, 28-мого вересня в 11-тій годині ранку буде парастас при гробі на цвинтарі Святого Андрія при Церкві Святого Андрія на 280 Mейн Вулиці в Південному Бавн Брук, Нюю Джерзі.
