Walter “Latchko” Safian, 95 of New York City, entered into eternal life on April 1, 2023 at Christian Health Care Center, Wyckoff. Born December 2, 1927 in Ushkovychi, Ukraine to the late Semen & Anastasia Safian, he lived in New York City for the past 74 years.
He was a retired Shipping Manager for Bi-Flex Industries in Moonachie and worked in the Garment industry for over 50 years. He was a proud US Army Veteran, serving honorably from 1952-1954 during the Korean War Era.
Latchko was a devout parishioner of St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church, New York City. He was also a member of the Dumka Ukrainian Choir, a member of PLAST (Ukrainian Scouting Organization) & volunteered much time with Self Reliance NY Federal Credit Union.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna (nee: Gembara).
Surviving to cherish his memory are his children Rona Safian & Renia Cordero and her husband Orlando and grandchildren: Gregory Rywak, Natalie Cordero Judge & her husband Denis & Christopher Cordero & his wife Brittany. He is also the proud great-grandfather of Mackenzie, Declan & Joseph.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Union Funeral Home.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. from the Funeral Home. Then to St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church for a Service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Andrew’s Orthodox Cemetery, South Bound Brook.
