Walter Lysak 1924 - 2019 Following a relatively short illness, Tuesday morning Walter Lysak peacefully died in the respectful comfort of a hospice. Born in Newark, N.J. on 7/29/24, Woldemere was the second of four children of Alex and Anna Borsuck Lysak. Walter first developed his life-long interest in photography while a student at East Side High School in Newark. During summer camp he took pictures, processed negatives and printed the pictures of his friends and activities. He further developed his love of photography by continuing his then hobby while stationed in Hawaii during WWII. The quality of his work was so good that even today, the photos are in perfect condition. Following WWII, he attended Mohawk College in Utica New York, and then returned to Newark where his hobby became his profession. He joined Little Folks Studio as an in-home child portrait photographer. As Little Folks developed into Americana Portraits, he continued to make children smile for over 35 years. Additionally, he specialized in wedding, corporate and media/industrial photography. His lens found the perfect subject in Julia Lichowid. The two of them became long-time residents of Hillside, where they celebrated 65 1/2 years of marriage. Walter Lysak was also a founding member of the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church of Hillside. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, served as parish trustee and was active in all church functions. He always greeted all those who entered Sunday services with a smile while distributing the church bulletin and prayer books. Whether it be a 5x7 speed graphic or modern digital, he always had a camera at hand....and a smile on his face. He is survived by daughters Paula Lysak and Susan Maguire. He is pre-deceased by Julia and daughter Karen Lysak. He was blessed with a long, generous and well lived life. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral on Friday (11/1/19) at 10:30AM at the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, on the corner of Liberty and Bloy Streets in Hillside. The interment will be private.
