------------------------------------------------------------ Willem Hendrik Pieter Van Iperen, 73, of Westfield, NJ passed away at his home on July 29, 2018. Willem was a beloved son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather. At the age of 22, he moved from the Netherlands to the United States. An engineer and inventor by trade, he earned degrees in electrical, mechanical, instrument, and biomedical engineering and coauthored over 20 patents. His career spanned scientific research, academia, as well as transportation and biomedical engineering. Always creative and passionate about science and nature, he loved to read, travel, garden, and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His humor was infectious, his storytelling was top notch, and his love was central to the core of the family. He is predeceased by his parents Pieter Johannes and Tryjte Half, Dorothea and Robert Nash, who welcomed him into their home when he first came to the United States, his sister Nel and her husband Wim Kapteyn, his sister Joke Van Iperen, his niece Renata Teuling, and his nephews Christopher and Nicholas Piskun. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Lucy, his daughter, Elizabeth Arguelles and her husband, Oscar, his son Pieter and his wife, Kerri, and his grandchildren David and Adam Arguelles, and Emerson Van Iperen. He is also survived by his brothers and their wives, Cees and Nel, Arie and Tiny, Dirk and Alice and their families, his sisters and their husbands, Aatie and Cees Alting, Ineke and Jaap Overduin, Els and Wim Schut and their families, and his brother-in-laws Andrew and Harry Piskun and their families. A viewing will be held at Union Funeral Home - Lytwyn & Lytwyn, in Union, NJ, today Wednesday August 1, 2018 from 4-8 pm. There will be a viewing at the Presbyterian Church in Westfield, NJ tomorrow, August 2, 2018 from 10-11 am with funeral services to follow at 11 am. The burial will take place at St. Andrews Cemetery in South Bound Brook, NJ following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stand Up to Cancer or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. ------------------------------
