Yvonne Thora Naidu, affectionately known as "Evie", surrounded by family, peacefully left us on March 18th, 2015 at St. Peters University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She was 86 years old. Evie was born on April 25th, 1928 on the island of Trinidad. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Evie was raised by her mother Amoy Peters and loved by her siblings, Victor Peters, Herman Osbourne, Elaine Carter, Joan Dymally and Lucille Peters. In Trinidad, Evie attended Sacred Heart Girls School and later, met and married the love of her life, James P. Naidu "Jim". Jim and Evie were blessed with seven children, Roland, Marilyn, Carolyn, Patricia, Shirley, Wendy and Gail who were the joy of their lives. Evie loved to cook and care for her growing family. They enjoyed many years at their home on Martineau Lane in Port of Spain. Evie was never afraid to think big and she longed to be able to give her children more opportunity and dreamed of America. A true adventurer, she traveled to America where she and Jim eventually settled in New Jersey. With her Trinidadian roots in the kitchen, she enjoyed a career as a Dietician at St. Michael's Hospital in Newark, NJ and was a faithful and well-loved employee until her retirement. As the Naidu family worked and prospered, they were able to purchase their first home in New Jersey, at Holland Road and later in Vauxhall, NJ. Evie enjoyed having a house full of family and often entertained friends who could always count on three things when they stopped by: a good meal, a good card game and lots of laughter. She enjoyed playing an active role in her grandchildren's lives and hosted them for summer vacations and trips to Disney World. Her home was always filled with love, laughter and good food. She was not known for holding her tongue when the occasion warranted it and she packed a lot of fire in her petite frame. That personality and spunk only served to further endear her to all who knew her. She loved to host Holiday celebrations for her growing family. She enjoyed nothing more than having all of her loved ones around her. With a loving heart, she was always remembering to "pack up food" to take for a co-worker or patient at the hospital the next day. Evie loved to travel and enjoyed her vacations. She took trips to Hawaii, Europe and throughout the US and Caribbean. She enjoyed decorating her house and always had things coordinated for every Season. Matching curtains, linens and towels were a must and she herself, loved to wear a sharp outfit complete with jewelry. In her later years, Evie became a resident of the Park Crescent Nursing Home where she brought her love of life and enthusiastic spirit with her. She was the favorite of her caregivers and other residents and their families. She could be seen playing a mean game of dominoes, cards or bingo and never let anyone beat her. As in her life, she always played to win. Evie is now at rest and joins her late husband, James P. Naidu (deceased) and her daughter, Wendy Naidu (deceased). She is survived by her children, Roland Naidu (Gail), Marilyn Prizgar, Carolyn Jones (Clyde), Patricia Beddoe, Shirley Forbes (Dwight) and Gail Bell-Bonnette. She leaves behind her Grandchildren Darrel Naidu, Candice Richardson (Mark), Candice Browne (David), Anthony Prizgar (Monique), Wesley Prizgar (Laura), Jeffrey C. Beddoe , Hank Sciequan, Larry Bell( Michelle), Larissa Bell, Natasha St. Helen, Candice Jayasuriya (Dileepa), Christian Forbes (Anna), Britani Hoffman(Jared) and her Great-Grandchildren Dana & Dominic Browne, Julian & Ellis Richardson, Gabriella Bell, Preston & Gavin St. Helen, Victoria & Brianna Prizgar, Tristan Prizgar, Caleb & Jade Jayasuriya and Fiona Hoffman.
